Greetings from James S. Gordon, MD, Founder & Director
The Center has pioneered the use of a unique mind-body skills group model for population-wide healing from the traumatic effects of war and natural disasters. But the question is-- does it work? Two peer-reviewed, published papers on our work with traumatized adolescents in Kosovo and preliminary data from our work in Gaza suggest that the answer is a resounding yes! You’ll find links to these papers below, along with other research on the effectiveness of Center programs, as well as newly published material from members of our CancerGuides® community. And click on the link to our webpage to learn about all our published research and work in progress. Enjoy!

Healing the Wounds of War in Kosovo – Two landmark studies have been published on the Center’s work with Kosovar adolescents – the most recent in the August 2008 issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. This is the first randomized controlled trial (RCT) of any intervention with war traumatized children; and the first of any traumatized population using a comprehensive program of mind-body medicine. |

Healing the Wounds of War in Gaza – Data was gathered on 498 children who participated in Mind-Body Skills Groups taught by 38 CMBM trained health professionals in Gaza. Following participation in the groups, the children had significantly lower levels of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and depression, and felt more hopeful about their future and their lives. A similar study has been done with adults.
