Greetings from James S. Gordon, MD, Founder & Director
Over the course of the past year and a half, the Center has focused on two important internal goals: greening our practices and streamlining our operations. During this time, we’ve gone from producing 4-inch thick binders for our Food As Medicine professional training to flash drives; and saved thousands of dollars by adopting more efficient work practices. As a result, our operations are smoother, less stressful and congruent with our earth-friendly philosophy. How did we get there? Staff commitment to finding solutions, to uncovering best practices and exploring technological innovations. We’ve included some of our findings that we hope will benefit you both professionally and personally. Enjoy! |

Taking the Leap: Going Paperless
Thinking about cutting back on paper?
Following the lead of the American Dietetic Association, we reduced our 4-inch Food As Medicine syllabus down to a 1” spiral bound book in 2007, and went totally paperless in 2008. Read about our adventures and challenges here.

Partners in Practice: Two organizations whose work we value in ‘green’ healthcare are:
- Teleosis Institute (www.teleosis.org) provides online courses in Leadership in Green Health Care; a Green Pharmacy program providing safe disposal of unwanted medicines; and publications and networking for health professionals.
- Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org) an educational and advocacy group providing helpful resources on health and the environment, including Skin Deep and the Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce.
